Television Without Pity Week

Welcome to the first of a series of two posts this week pertaining to what might just be my favorite website: Television Without Pity. Television Without Pity started as a site called Dawson's Wrap that recapped Dawson's Creek; it eventually grew into the totally rockin' website it is now. On it you can find recaps of most dramas and reality tv shows on today, also they have well-moderated forums and archives of anything that was recapped at one time. Their authors do a really good job plus they're smart and funny.

Very rarely do I buy a book; I'm at a public library almost every day for work and I don't cook, so it seems silly for me to own many books. I was also brought up by a public librarian who I would rebel against by buying books when I was in high school - nerd alert. All of this said, I bought Television Without Pity: 752 Things We Love To Hate (And Hate To Love) About TV by Tara Ariano and Sarah D. Bunting and boy am I glad that I did. The book is set up in dictionary form and alphabetized (yay). It's awesomely dedicated to Ian Ziering and has so many entries that make me laugh and remember the show/character/Dawson's Creek reference. The authors do a good job of including actors, characters, typical tv situations, specific shows and catch phrases. All of that information is presented in a funny way and goes well with entries like "Fashion: Hilarious Attempts of TV Guys in the 90s At", "Cool: TV Signifiers Of", "Pregnancy: Cliches Associated With". If you're a TV junkie who grew up in the 80s and 90s, this book is definitely for you. If not, check out the website anyway it's worth it.
