The Book of Joe

I almost couldn't believe it when I realized that I hadn't reviewed this novel on here yet, it's one of the funniest books I've read in a while. So here we go.
In The Book of Joe by Jonathan Tropper, the title character, Joe Goffman, writes a tell-all novel about his hometown. In typical book fashion, all the things that made his life miserable in the small town of Bush Falls where he grew up make his book a huge success. Sixteen years later, Joe must return to his hometown, the setting of his novel (and subsequent movie) where most of the population wants to kill him. Joe's father is sick after a stroke and when Joe returns he finds his past catching up with him in the form of former high school sports stars turned town law enforcement. Another interesting part of his novel is Joe's relationships with the women in Bush Falls, his one true love Carly, the MILF Lucy and the football coach's wife who is upset that Joe cast the football coach as a chronic masturbator in his novel. She dumps a milkshake on Joe's head his first day back in town. Tropper crafts a funny and heart-warming novel while keeping the characters believable. If you're due for a good laugh, check this one out.
