Chick Lit Duo

This past week I read two more chick lit-y type books and although the last book I reviewed was chick lit, don't go thinking I've gone soft on y'all. I'm reading a classic pop culture book right now that I'll review next week but trust me, the two books presented today are good ones.
Last summer I reviewed Diana Peterfreund's first novel in a series about elite college Eli's secret society Rose and Grave titled Secret Society Girl. I enjoyed the first book a lot, it was a fun and quick read. The second book in the series, Under the Rose: An Ivy League Novel came out recently and picks up where the last story left off. The main character Amy Haskel is a member of the secret society Rose and Grave and in the second book the society is having some trouble keeping their time-honored secrets. A member has been leaking secrets to the public and a mystery surrounding the secrets makes things interesting. In addition to Amy dating a fellow society member, she has to deal with roommate issues and the disappearance of another female society member. Overall, this book was fun and the added mystery made it enjoyable. Check out Diana's website here.
A friend recommended a YA novel to me last week called Dramarama by E. Lockhart. If you're a faithful reader you know of my interest in theatre and Broadway musicals and this book was perfect for me. High school friends Sadye and Demi are accepted to Wildewood for a summer theatre program. They document their journey in a microcassette recorder and the transcripts are part of the novel following their camp time through Cats, Bye Bye Birdie, A Midsummer Nights Dream and Guys and Dolls. The two make many friends, boyfriends and, as indicated by the title, deal with drama both on stage and off. In addition to a great soundtrack, this book is great fun and appeals to adults (or at least this adult) as well as the YA audience for which it was written. Check out Lockhart's website here.
